Genuine Flybox Avionics Hardware

Flybox CAN Bus Bridge / Isolator Module

The Flybox CAN Bus Bridge is an intelligent dual-channel avionics network gateway and galvanic isolator designed for Ultralight, Light Sport (LSA), and Experimental aircraft. Engineered to link distinct digital networks—such as bridging Rotax iS engine ECUs to Flybox glass cockpits—it filters telemetry, translates baud rates, and isolates sensitive flight displays from inductive electrical noise and bus faults.

Device Role CAN Gateway / Bridge
Channels 2x Isolated Ports
Electrical Bus 10 V – 30 V DC
Standard ISO 11898 (CAN 2.0)

Network Reliability & Avionics Protection

Why an isolated CAN bridge is essential for modern electronically controlled cockpits:

01

Galvanic Fault Isolation

Electrically decouples the engine ECU and high-power servo channels from the main instrument bus. Prevents ground loops, alternator voltage spikes, and starter surges from damaging flight deck processors.

02

Baud Rate & Protocol Gateway

Translates and buffers telemetry packets across busses running at mismatched speeds (e.g. 250 kbps engine ECU data linked to a 500 kbps or 1 Mbps glass cockpit flight bus) without packet loss.

03

Bus Traffic Filtering

Selectively filters high-frequency raw broadcast traffic, forwarding only relevant engine and air data parameters to keep primary flight computers responsive and prevent bus saturation.

04

Fault Containment

Contains wiring faults to their respective branch. If a severed wire or short occurs on an actuator or engine harness, the bridge prevents the fault from crashing the primary PFD network.

Technical Specifications

Product Role Dual-Channel CAN Bus Bridge / Gateway & Electrical Isolator
Avionics System Compatibility Flybox Eclipse NG, Flybox Vigilus EIS, Flybox EngiMaster EIS, and Oblò PFD
Operating Voltage Range 10 V – 30 V DC (12 V and 24 V aircraft electrical systems)
CAN Channels 2x Independent High-Speed CAN ports (CAN 1 & CAN 2)
Protocol Standards ISO 11898 • CAN 2.0A (Standard 11-bit) & CAN 2.0B (Extended 29-bit)
Galvanic Isolation Up to 1 kV galvanic isolation between ports
Supported Baud Rates 125 kbps, 250 kbps, 500 kbps, and 1 Mbps (independent per port)
Termination Provision Integrated/configurable 120 Ω bus termination resistors
Operating Temperature Range -20°C to +85°C (cockpit and avionics sub-panel rated)
Target Aircraft Ultralights, Light Sport (LSA), Microlights, and Homebuilt Experimental aircraft
Installation Advisory: Mount the bridge module securely to an avionics tray or behind the instrument panel away from high-heat ducting. Each isolated CAN segment must be properly terminated with two 120 Ω resistors (one at each physical end of that bus segment). Always use Mil-Spec twisted shielded pair cabling (e.g. M27500 / Tefzel) for all CAN-H and CAN-L data lines.
